In 1995, Chouette Publishing reached an agreement with CINAR Corporation (now owned by Cookie Jar Entertainment Inc.) for the production of an animated television show starring Caillou. The series has since been broadcast on Teletoon (in Canada) and on the American network PBS. The rights have been sold in over 70 countries!

Christine L'Heureux founded Chouette Publishing in 1987. After earning her master's degree in literature from Aix-en-Provence university in France, and lecturing at the Université de Montréal, Christine launched her publishing career, making her focus children's literature.

Our mission

Christine L'Heureux gave Chouette Publishing a highly innovative mission: to publish books for children from birth to six years. Inspired by the work of French psychoanalyst Dr. Françoise Dolto, Christine wanted to offer books that would help children to develop their own unique personality while learning to grow up in harmony with the world around them.

Caillou was born in 1990. He immediately became a loyal friend to children in their discovery of life and the world around them.

Chouette Publishing today

Chouette Publishing now features more than 90 titles in its catalog. These books are divided into series, each adapted to a stage of child development, from birth through age six.

The company is solidly established in North America and is now increasingly present on the global market. Translated into many languages, the Caillou books, as of 2002, have sold more than six million copies throughout the world. The universality of the situations recounted in each story and children's empathy with Caillou have made Chouette a publisher of international scope. Today, children worldwide are growing up with Caillou!

Since September 2000, the American network PBS has broadcast the animated Caillou television series created by CINAR Corporation. It's a smash hit! Children in North America adore our small hero, who kept his French name. "Kye-you" is on the lips and in the minds of little ones from coast to coast. Distributed in bookstores and retailers throughout the U.S.A. and Canada, the Caillou books have garnered excellent reviews and made the top ten list of bestsellers in several retail chains. By the end of 2002, in the United States alone, sales reached more than two million copies. And each season, Chouette's market presence has strengthened.

What's in store for Chouette?

Twenty years of success is only the beginning. Our passion for books and children is stronger than ever and our goal remains the same: to instill a love of reading in children while giving them tools to grow in harmony with the world around them. And our ideas just keep on coming. In fact, new series are created every season. Each year, children are born and begin that exciting journey of self-discovery, and each year Caillou is there to help them explore the world and discover life.
